In General
Luther has rolling admission, so there's no deadline to apply.
To stay on track with the allocation of financial assistance (beyond merit-based scholarships), however, applicants should consider completing their application by January 1.
Once you have decided to attend Luther, you should submit your $200 enrollment deposit to the Admissions Office. The enrollment deposit secures your place at Luther and triggers the mailing of your housing application.
The housing application should be completed as soon as possible—your choice of housing is based on the date of receipt of the completed housing application.
Early November
Luther begins reviewing completed applications. Applicants will likely hear about the outcome of their application—and their eligibility for academic scholarship—within two weeks of submitting a complete application, available online.
January
After January 1, applicants and their families may submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), based on the previous year's tax information. This form is required for Luther to consider a student for financial assistance.
To file the FAFSA online (recommended), visit www.fafsa.ed.gov. Note that students and parents each need a Personal Identification Number (PIN). For more information, contact Luther's Financial Aid Office.
March
Your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should be complete by March 1. This form, submitted first to the government and forwarded to Luther, enables Luther to review a student's eligibility for financial assistance (including endowed scholarship). Please note that it usually takes a few weeks for a FAFSA to be processed by the federal government. All families are encouraged to complete a FAFSA, regardless of perceived qualification for aid, because several factors (including number of students in college) may lead to financing possibilities.
March 15 is the deadline for completing an audition for music scholarship. Simply contact the Admissions Office at (800) 458-8437, and we'll schedule your audition for you. You do not need to major in music to be considered for a music scholarship.
Tuition and fees for the upcoming academic year are approved by the Luther College Board of Regents in February or March. We will notify you of the new tuition, room, and board charges. The information will also be posted on the Financial Aid Office website.
Students who have applied for need-based financial assistance (by completing the FAFSA and the Luther Supplemental Financial Aid Application) will begin receiving notification of aid awards in mid-March. A signed copy of the award must be returned to the Financial Aid Office.
April
Starting in April, please inform the Financial Aid Office, by phone or in writing, of any outside scholarships you have been awarded. By law, these scholarships need to be coordinated with your financial aid award.
May 1
The National Candidate Reply Date for all colleges is May 1. If you haven't already done so, make your decision to attend Luther and send in your nonrefundable $200 enrollment deposit. An application for housing will be mailed to you upon receipt of your deposit. Since housing is allocated based on the date Luther receives your completed housing application, it's to your advantage to make your college decision as soon as you are certain Luther is the best fit for you.
