Students taking Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses or who have earned college credits while in high school may complete the form for unofficial review of college courses and send it to the transfer student coordinator to receive information regarding course transfer.
Advanced Placement (AP)
AP exam scores of 4 or 5 qualify for up to four semester hours of credit per exam.
AP credit does not exempt a student from Paideia, Luther's common first-year interdisciplinary course.
Credits may be applied toward electives and those courses within a student's major in which exemption is allowed.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
Higher Level exam scores of 4 or better qualify for up to four semester hours of credit per exam. Exams taken at the subsidiary level in the IB program will not be considered for credit.
IB credit does not exempt a student from Paideia, Luther's common first-year interdisciplinary course.
IB credit may be applied toward electives and those courses within a student's major in which exemption is allowed.
Other College-Level Credit
Full credit is given for coursework completed at an accredited college or university, provided that course grades are at a "C" level or better.
Course titles eligible for transfer and their grades appear on a student's Luther transcript. However, these grades are not included in computing his/her grade point average at Luther.
The credit granted for work done at another institution is subject to the completion of one year of satisfactory work at Luther.
A maximum of 64 hours of work can be transferred from a recognized two-year college. There is no maximum on hours transferred from accredited four-year institutions, but no fewer than 32 hours must be completed at Luther in order to receive a Luther degree.
A written evaluation of college transfer credits will be sent after the student is accepted for admission. To begin the evaluation process, please download and complete the unofficial review of college courses form (PDF).
