Luther offers over 60 majors, minors and pre-professional programs. Our rigorous and engaging liberal arts curriculum provides plenty of opportunity for you to study a number of different subjects. In fact, we encourage it!
You'll find that our top-notch professors are dedicated to teaching and truly care about their students. And our low student-to-faculty ratio of 12:1 ensure small class sizes. (At Luther you're not a number!) Teachers at Luther promote an “open door” culture, which makes them accessible to students—in fact, 95 percent of faculty choose to live within five miles of campus.
As a liberal arts college, Luther encourages an approach to learning that makes connections between subjects and also connects individual learning to the larger world. In this spirit, you will engage in an education beyond the classroom walls—through collaborative research with professors, study-away programs, and prestigious internships, to name just a few examples.
Integral to a Luther education is our signature Paideia program, an interdisciplinary course series that strengthens community through shared academic experience. First-year students in the Paideia program share a common reading list and attend performances, events, and an annual lecture series together. The Paideia tradition continues for upperclass students with a course that focuses on ethics and values in the context of a specific major.
