Scholarships & Aid

Choosing a college means making an important decision to invest a substantial amount of energy, time, and money in yourself and in your future.

At Luther, you'll find that our Financial Aid Office is committed to working with you and your family to make a Luther education possible--not only for your first year, but throughout all four years. Your investment of energy, time, and money will ensure valuable returns throughout your life.

While the awarding of financial assistance can be a complicated issue, we try our best to make the process as easy as possible. A simple way to look at financial aid is to break it into two separate categories: merit-based (scholarships and awards) and need-based (grants, loans, work study, and other assistance).

Merit-based assistance is awarded based on talents and abilities, and does not take family finances into account. These scholarships and awards are typically distributed based on applications or auditions. Academic scholarships, the most common form of merit-based aid, are based entirely on your application for admission.

Grants, loans, endowed scholarships, and work study are all forms of need-based assistance. To qualify for need-based aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA--www.fafsa.ed.gov) each year they are in college.
