Transportation Services & Options

Whether traveling home for an occasional weekend, holiday, or break, or just getting around Decorah, students at Luther College utilize numerous forms of transportation.

Please bear in mind, Decorah is definitely a "walking town," with the majority of businesses, sites, and attractions located within walking distance of campus. In addition, bicycles are commonly found on the Luther campus, and provide students with a quick and easy way to get around town.

Bikes

Students are encouraged to bring bikes to school. Bike racks are located at several places on campus. For information regarding bike storage between Thanksgiving and Spring break, go to http://www.luther.edu/sustainability/transportation/bikestorage/.

Register your bike for free. This one-time registration will put your bike's information into a national database accessible by police departments throughout the country. If you bike is stolen in Decorah, or elsewhere, registering your bike will identify you as the owner if it is recovered. A lock for your bike is recommended.

Cars

First-year students may have cars on campus, but they must be registered (within 72 hours of arrival) at the Information and Security Service Desk. For $100 per year, students receive a sticker for their car indicating where they must park.

U Car Share

To reduce the number of cars brought to campus, introduce sustainable transportation, provide a cost-effective alternative to car ownership, and to provide a great service to the local community, Luther has partnered up with U Car Share to bring a car sharing program to campus.

Taxi Service

Decorah has multiple Taxi services as well as shuttles to La Crosse, Rochester, Iowa City and other surrounding cities.

For more information, please go to http://www.luther.edu/sustainability/transportation/taxis/.

Rideshare

The Student Activities Council manages a ride board, located in the corridor near the cafeteria in the Dahl Centennial Union. Students with room for passengers, as well as students needing rides, can exchange messages.

For more information on the Rideshare program, please go to http://www.luther.edu/sustainability/transportation/rideshare/.

Van Service

Luther College offers its own shuttle service to and from the Rochester and Minneapolis airports; you do not need to be flying to use this service. The shuttle is scheduled to run at the beginning of the academic year, end of the first semester, beginning and end of January term, beginning and end of spring break, and at the end of the second semester. Feel free to contact Student Activities at 563-387-1023, or Student Life at 563-387-1020.
