Student Support Services

Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally-funded TRIO program designed to help ensure academic success for Luther College students who meet federal eligibility guidelines. The program serves 160 students annually, and all services and activities are free to students who qualify.

Some of the ways in which SSS helps students make the transition to Luther and be successful in school include:

  • academic, career, and financial advising
  • tutoring services
  • equipment loan program
  • access to SSS grants and scholarships
  • leadership development and cultural enrichment opportunities
  • assistance with graduate/professional school admission

2008-2009 TRIO/SSS Income Eligibility

This table indicates the maximum taxable income that a student's parents can earn in order to be eligible for participation in TRIO programs, including Student Support Services.

For family units with more than 8 members, add $5,610 for each additional member.

The taxable income figures shown above represent amounts equal to 150 percent of the family income levels established by the Census Bureau for determining poverty status. They are effective beginning January 23, 2009, until further notice. Figures are applicable to families living in the 48 contiguous states, D.C., and outlying jurisdictions. Figures are available upon request for residents of Hawaii and Alaska.

If a student's family income exceeds the above amounts, his/her application to the SSS Program will still be considered if neither parent has completed a bachelor's degree or if the student has a documented disability.
