Health and Travel Safety Resources

Health and Immunizations

The Luther College Health Service and study abroad staff regularly consult the recommendations given by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

Unless required for entry into a nation, all decisions regarding immunizations are made by the student and his/her personal physician after reviewing the CDC reports. Visit the CDC on-line or call (800) 311-3435 for more information.

Country and Travel Advisory Reports

Study abroad staff regularly monitor U.S. Department of State reports. Luther policy prohibits study in nations under a U.S. Department of State "travel warning." If the warning should occur after students have begun the program, all students are required to leave the country as soon as conditions permit.

Government travel reports from the United Kingdom are also monitored. The European perspective provides valuable additional information. Students, parents, and friends are encouraged to read reports by both governments:
