Study Abroad
More than 80 percent of Luther students study abroad in their four years on campus (according to the Institute of International Education Open Doors Report).
Each year, an average of 450 students study abroad, and faculty develop three or more new international courses. Since 1990, more than 140 facutly across all disciplines have organized and led courses abroad. The result is real-time perspective of other cultures that's evident in classes every day at Luther.
Find a study abroad option tailored to your interests.
Choose from semester- and year-long programs; January-term courses; and summer programs in locations worldwide. You'll work with Luther's study abroad adviser, your academic adviser and the financial aid office to select programs that fit your course of study, interests, and budget.
We pay special attention to programs in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, with one-half to two-thirds of our January Term courses based there every year.
Luther courses keep costs low and academic quality high.
- Luther develops and administers about 25 January term courses and five semester or year programs each year. We do all our own work rather than hiring outside agents, eliminating middle-man costs.
- Our staff and faculty have extensive experience overseas. In fact, our four senior staff members have worked a combined 80 years in study abroad and international education, and we emphasize opportunity for additional faculty to develop new courses every year. Our programs are built on faculty expertise and incorporate the many benefits of having personal friends and longstanding academic contacts abroad.
