Dr. Robert Cording, February 27-March 4, 2004

Robert Cording Dr. Robert Cording is a prize-winning poet whose books include Life-List (1987; Ohio State University Press/Journal Award); What Binds Us to this World (1991); Heavy Grace (1996); and Against Consolation (2002). He is Professor of English and James N. and Sarah L. O'Reilly Barrett Professor of Creative Writing at Holy Cross College in Massachusetts, where he teaches English and Creative Writing. He has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts, the Connecticut Commission of the Arts, and Bread Loaf Writers' Workshop.

He has been Poet-in-Residence at the Frost Place in Franconia, New Hampshire. His poems have been published in the Nation, Georgia Review, Kenyon Review, New England Review, Poetry, DoubleTake, Orion, Paris Review, and the New Yorker. His poetry has appeared in anthologies, such as The Best Spiritual Writing of 2000, 2001 and 2002, the prestigious Pushcart anthology, and Godine's New Poets of the New Century. Dr. Cording will read poetry at Poems 4 Friday, meet with Creative Writing students, meet with English Department faculty and as well as speak at Daily Chapel in a Lenten poetry series. He will also give a joint presentation with Makoto Fujimura on Tuesday, March 2, 7:30 p.m., CFL Recital Hall, "Vocation of the Artist".

  • Evening public lecture on "Vocation of an Artist" in CFL Recital Hall. This will be joint lecture with Dr. Cording and Mr. Makoto Fujimura, artist.
  • Reception and exhibit, 9:00 p.m., Atrium of CFA

Wednesday, March 3

  • Joint Brown Bag Lunch Discussion of Tuesday night lecture, Noon, Nobel Room in Nobel

Thursday, March 4
