Andrea Clearfield (b. 1960), a composer of music for instrumental and vocal soloists, mixed chamber ensembles, chorus, orchestra, film and dance has had her works performed by noted artists both in the U.S. and internationally. A native of Philadelphia, she received a D.M.A. in Composition from Temple University. She serves on the composition faculty at The University of the Arts and is the pianist in the Rêlache Ensemble for Contemporary Music. She has received numerous grants and awards from such organizations as ASCAP, The Leeway Foundation, the American Music Center, the American Composers Forum, the International Alliance for Women in Music,

the Independence Foundation and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and has been in residence at Yaddo where she was awarded the Aaron Copland Residency for an American Composer, the MacDowell Colony, the Ucross Foundation, Blue Mountain Center, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Ragdale, Millay Colony and the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Ireland. Her works are published by Oxford University Press, International Opus, Jomar Press and Angelfire Press. A strong believer in creating community through music, Dr. Clearfield is also the host and founder of the Philadelphia SALON Concert Series featuring contemporary, classical, jazz, electronic and world music since 1986.

Ms. Clearfield will present an introduction to her 2000 oratorio, Women of Valor, followed by a concert of music by American women composers, presented by pianist Jessica Paul and collaborating artists. The evening's program will culminate in selected movements of Clearfield's work. Friday, Feb. 23, 2007,
