Dr. Parker Palmer

Parker J. Palmer is a writer, teacher and activist visiting campus March 17-19, 2003. He is a pre-eminent name in education and vocation circles. His book, Let Your Life Speak, has been widely used on campus for reading groups, retreats and pre-seminary student groups. Dr. Palmer will meet with groups of students, faculty/staff, speak in Daily Chapel during his two day visit. He will present a public lecture, "Let Your Life Speak: Vocation, Education and the Needs of the World" on March 18, 7:30 p.m. in the main hall of the Center for Faith and Life.

Dr. Palmer travels widely giving workshops, lectures and retreats on vocation and educational topics. He is considered a master teacher and a key "agenda setter". He has served as consultant to several corporations and foundations including the Fetzer Institute, Kellogg Foundation, The Lilly Endowment and the Ford Motor Company. His publications include ten poems, over one hundred essays and six books: Let Your Life Speak (San Francisco: Jossey-Bass, 1998), The Courage to Teach (San Francisco: Jossey-Bass, 1998), The Active Life (San Francisco: Jossey-Bass, 1990), To Know as We Are Known (San Francisco: HarperSanFrancisco, 1983, 1993), The Company of Strangers (NY: Crossroad, 1981, 1991), and The Promise of Paradox (Washington, DC: Servant leadership Press, 1979).
