Mark Kresowik, April 1-3, 2008

Mark Kresowik, acting director of Iowa Interfaith Power and Light (IIP&L), will address social work students on organizing community strategies at the Don Kemp Memorial Scholarship Event, Wednesday, April 2, 5:00 p.m., Baker Village Commons.

Mr. Kresowik is presently volunteering as the acting director of IIP&L and is responsible for all aspects of IIP&L's work. IIP&L's feature program is "Cool Congregations", a global warming pollution reduction stewardship program for faith communities. More than 100 of Iowa's faith communities have participated in "Cool Congregations". Mark travels the state educating people of faith about creation care, directs policy advocacyfor the organization at the state and federal levels, works with two other volunteers on fundraising, and takes care of administration and communications.

Prior to serving as the acting director of IIP&L, Mark volunteeredfor the organization as a public speaker, with elected officials as policy director, and staffed the development task force. Mark has been an organizer with the Sierra Club's National Coal Campaign in Iowa for nearly two years. He has assisted and coordinated volunteers on campaigns against twonew coal plants, two existing coal plants, more than ten Cool Cities campaigns, and worked extensively on state and federal global warming policy issues. Mark served as President of the University of Iowa Student Government from 2005-2006 and his undergraduate thesis, which included the religious response to environmental issues, was titled "Sustainable Consumption and Ethical Economics".

Mr. Kresowik will facilitate the Cool Congregation gathering at First Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 5. Details to be announced.
