john brady, october 22-27, 2005

Retired Army Corp Engineer and Environmentalist.

 

John Brady holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Temple University and a Master of Science degree in Wildlife Management from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. For 32 years he served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where he performed and managed studies to determine the impacts of water resource development projects on the environment. He also worked in the regulation of projects in water of the United States, including wetlands. Some of these studies included endangered species assessments, environmental restoration projects, air quality assessments, and habitat evaluation. John was a member and team leader of the Indiana and Gray Bat Recovery Team that developed a plan for the recovery of these endangered species.

Mr. Brady worked on a number of controversial projects that involved a great deal of conflict including two law suits. He has always had an interest in conflict management/resolution and attempted to apply these principals during his life work.

He is a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and, since his retirement in 1004, has been active in a project of the Philadelphia Quakers to examine how a just and equitable society can be achieved while restoring the environment. He has also participated in a program of the Philadelphia Quakers to provide an opportunity for spiritual growth and development.

Mr. Brady will visit the Paideia Capstone class on Biodiversity as well as the Environmental Philosophy classes. He will preach at Daily Chapel on Monday, October 24, 2005 at 10:30 a.m., CFL.
