Rev. Floyd Hart

Rev. Floyd Hart, an ordained Presbyterian pastor, is the Director of the Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission at Rock Point, Arizona on the Navajo Reservation. For over a decade Luther College has offered courses at NELM which attracts students from many backgroundsbut the common thread has been an emphasis of cross-cultural interaction and service learning. A relationship of mutual respect, trust and understanding has developed between Luther College and the Navajo associated with NELM. (See link above.) Rev. Hart will share with Luther students and area communities and churches his concept of vocation and call to service.

Rev. Hart's Biographical Sketch

 

Pastor Floyd K. Hart is the Executive Director for the Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission in the Grand Canyon ELCA Synod at Rock Point, Arizona, on the Navajo Nation Reservation.   Pastor Hart served in this position since May 2001.

Prior to serving at the Mission, Pastor Hart, served as Pastor of the Dacotah Oyate Lutheran Church (ELCA) in the Eastern North Dakota (ELCA) Synod at Tokio, North Dakota, on the Spirit Lake Sioux Reservation.

Pastor Hart served in the U.S. Air Force as an enlisted person and then as an Officer as a Chaplain.   He has served tours of duty in Southeast Asia, Idaho, Arizona, South Dakota, and North Dakota.

Pastor Hart has served on various churchwide committees and boards and synodical entities.   He was a guest speaker for the National Racial Ethnic Gathering in 1995 and workshop leader on cross-cultural ministry with Native American people with emphasis on reservation ministries.

Pastor Hart attended seminary at both the Wartburg Theological Seminary (ELCA Lutheran) and University of Dubuque Theological Seminary (Presbyterian) in Dubuque, Iowa.   He graduated twice with degrees in Christian Education and Divinity.   He graduated from the Black Hills State College in Spearfish, South Dakota, attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota, graduated from the Air Force School for Administration and Line Management, Kessler Air Force Base, Bioloxi, Mississippi.

Pastor Hart grew up in Sisseton, South Dakota.   Pastor Hart is married to Debbie and they have two sons and one grandson.   Pastor Hart enjoys playing basketball, softball, fly fishing, camping, hunting whitetail deer, and urban people watching in Phoenix, AZ.
