rev. mike blair, campus pastor

Rev. Mike Blair was on sabbatical in the Fall of 2003. He devoted a portion of his time to readings on vocation. He was particularly interested in developing a better developmental understanding of vocation. He selected a range of books targeted to understanding young adults, general books on theology and faith development and writings on ordained ministry and discernment.

In his application for the self-directed reading program, Rev. Blair stated, "Deepening my understanding of how students, faculty, and staff understand vocation at various life stages can only be of benefit to ministry with the Luther community. Vocation is a recurring theme in community ministry that includes mentoring students who are discerning candidacy as a church leader to informal conversations in Marty's over questions of faith and life."

This sabbatical offered Rev. Blair the time to complete extended reading and the intentional reflection on vocation. The benefit of this reading will be seen in pastoral care and conversations with students, in preaching and teaching ministry and in better awareness of issues related to vocation.
