Careers
Language skills and the study abroad experience can enhance one's preparation for virtually any career. Those preparing to work in government, international business, or health care professions often study Spanish as a major or minor. Many students also study Spanish in preparation to teach the language at the elementary or secondary level or to teach English as a Second Language (ESL). Students preparing for graduate programs in romance languages and linguistics, English, and political science are also Spanish majors and minors at Luther.
Following graduation, recent Spanish majors have entered careers in teaching, social work, bilingual education, interpretation, ESL, medicine, and ministry. A growing number are working or serving as volunteers both in the United States and in Latin America through programs like Teach for America, AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps. Others are continuing their study and research at the graduate level at universities in the United States and abroad.
