Students who majored in social work at Luther College work in a wide variety of social service areas, including child welfare, corrections, medical social services, aging management, chemical dependency, and mental health.

Data from the U.S. Department of Labor indicates employment of social workers is expected to increase faster than the average for all occupations through 2014. Students graduating from Luther have also been very successful in gaining advanced standing in graduate schools of social work, thus reducing their time required to earn a graduate degree.
