Psychology
Psychology is the science that studies behavior and mental processes. Students who study psychology at the undergraduate level typically survey the discipline broadly—taking courses in learning, development, cognition, perception, psychobiology, psychopathology, social influence, and emotion. While the study of psychology at the undergraduate level is necessarily broad, there is a common theme that unites these diverse topics of study—the use of the scientific method.
Luther's psychology program emphasizes the basic psychological processes: learning, memory development, perceiving, emotion expression, motivation, and thinking. The major in psychology is designed to give the student not only a knowledge of these topics, but also an understanding of how this knowledge is scientifically acquired and applied. Consequently, many of the department's courses include a laboratory component.
