Facilities

The political science department has offices in historic Koren Building and Campus House. Many classes within the major are held in Koren.

Faculty members of the political science department are deliberately experimental in their teaching methods and seek to involve students whenever possible in politics beyond the textbook. They often use role playing, simulations, and mock courts in classes to involve students directly.

Faculty members also encourage students to participate in off-campus programs that allow them to relate their academic knowledge to the day-to-day activities of people employed in these professions. For example, political science majors often spend time during their junior year studying in Washington, D.C. These programs give students a chance to explore their own vocational interests.

Luther is affiliated with the Lutheran College Washington Consortium, and the Iowa General Assembly Legislative Internships program. Several other internship programs allow students to work with judges, lawyers, newspaper editors, state senators, and law enforcement officials. Students primarily interested in international affairs are encouraged to choose from a wide range of study-abroad programs.
