With computer advancements occurring almost daily, it is evident that the present high demand for computer scientists will continue into the future. Luther graduates with computer science majors have the backgrounds and abilities to go in many different directions.

Job opportunities and internships are excellent in the fields of applications and systems programming. Students have even been able to receive internships after only two years of college. There are also openings in computer design, operations research, and technical services. Many companies come to Luther to interview students to fill internship and job openings.

Recent Luther graduates are designing and administering computer networks, building software packages for IBM and Microsoft, and working with distributed databases. A number of companies recruit computer science majors at Luther; these include but are not limited to Net Perceptions, Accenture, Artemis Alliance, Fastenal, Lutheran Brotherhood, and Medtronics.

Luther computer science majors have also been extremely successful in gaining admission to graduate schools.

Even with the current broad range of computer applications, expectations are that there will be greater diversity in the future. No one can be certain which courses of study will be most advantageous to pursue. It is clear, however, that the most marketable individuals will be those who are not only technically trained, but also well-versed in the science of computing.
