Royal Visit

Norway's flag

In celebration of the Luther College Sesquicentennial, King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway will visit the Luther campus on Thursday morning, October 13.

The college will host a Royal Convocation in honor of Their Majesties at 11:45 a.m.  The 30-minute ceremony will be held in the Center for Faith and Life.

Luther's daily schedule will be adjusted on October 13 so that the Royal Convocation does not conflict with classes.  Specifically, classes normally held from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Thursdays will be held from 9:40 - 11:10 a.m. that day.

The Royal Convocation program will include a presentation of the Spirit of Luther Award to Their Majesties, performances by the Luther College Symphony Orchestra and Nordic Choir, a gift presentation, and a greeting by His Majesty the King.

Because of high demand, tickets for the Royal Convocation are being distributed through an online lottery process.  The lottery closed on September 8.

How will I know if I got a ticket?  Royal Convocation attendees will be chosen at random from the lottery pool.  They will be contacted via e-mail to complete the ticket transaction, and must respond before September 26.  Failure to meet the September 26 deadline will result in that ticket going to someone else.

Important Details:

  • Only one submission per person is allowed.  If multiple submissions are found from the same person or e-mail address, his or her request will be eliminated from the lottery.
  • This is an official state visit and for security reasons Royal Convocation tickets are nontransferable.  We are unable to offer refunds.

Thank you for understanding the rules and requirements for the lottery. It is a great honor to host The King and Queen of Norway and regrettably Luther College is unable to accommodate everyone who would like to attend this special occasion.

Those without a convocation ticket are welcome to gather in the Bentdahl Commons area in the center of campus at 11:30 a.m. on October 13 to view Their Majesties' arrival on campus.  The King and Queen will also come out to Bentdahl Commons after the convocation, at 12:20 p.m., to wave to well-wishers.
