Sesquicentennial Homecoming Events

Special Homecoming activities, October 13–16, 2011
• Special Convocation honoring Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway, Thursday, Oct. 13, 11:45 a.m. The royal visit of Luther College is part of an official visit to the Midwest. The convocation is a ticketed event and all tickets have been distributed.
• “Servants Banquet,” an evening to honor alumni who have served as
church leaders. The evening will include music by Collegiate Chorale
and an address by Rev. H. George Anderson, President Emeritus & Former
ELCA Presiding Bishop. The banquet will be held Thursday, October 13,
6:00 p.m., at the Steyer Opera House, Hotel Winneshiek, Decorah.
Reservations will be accepted until Wednesday, October 5 online at this link.
• Founders Day Chapel, Oct. 14, 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Ruth Drews ’76, descendant of Luther’s first campus pastor, Nils O. Brandt. Contact College Ministries, (563) 387-1040, ministry@luther.edu
• Founders Day Festival Dinner, Oct. 14—a large gala in a transformed Regents Center, will include special “journey portraits” and Distinguished Service Awards. Contact Ann Sponberg Peterson, (563) 387-1510, petean03@luther.edu
• The History Walk, Oct. 14 at 11:30 a.m., Oct. 15 at 11:00 a.m., and Oct. 16 at 12:15 p.m. A living history performance that takes participants on a guided tour of Luther's past. Costumed actors stationed throughout campus will bring to life many of the people and pivotal moments which have shaped the college since 1861.
• Book Signing by Will Bunge '53–10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Oct. 15 in the Book Shop, Dahl Centennial Union. Transformed by the Journey: 150 Years of Luther College History in Word and Image
• Luther Sketches: A Lighthearted Romp Through Luther's Sensational Saga–Recital Hall, Center for Faith and Life. Oct. 15, 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Performed by The Sustainable Sesquicentennial Six.
• Architectural tour of Luther College, Oct. 15, 1:30 p.m. See how the college has transformed over time by learning about the history, architecture and design of its facilities and grounds. Led by John R. Christianson, professor emeritus of history, and Birgitte Christianson, former director of development.
•“Soli Deo Gloria”—a festival Eucharist, Oct. 16, 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. Mark Hanson, ELCA presiding bishop. Contact College Ministries, (563) 387-1040, ministry@luther.edu
• Sesquicentennial Homecoming Concert, Oct. 16, 1:30 p.m.
The weekend will also include annual Homecoming events, including the parade with a special sesquicentennial float, the Hoslett Lecture, athletic hall of fame, football game, reunion luncheons and dinners, departmental gatherings, and Flamingo Ball.
